More shots of the eagle family on Broad River. We think there are at least two eaglets but haven't been able to get a picture yet..

Sharing this with some good friends made it that much better.

Blood Root/ Bloodwort spotted along the trail.

Beautiful day but very blustery. It must have been gusting at 20 plus MPH.

Eagles

That's a huge nest.

Trying to get creative. Took this through the binocular.

Hard to see but this is the other one of the pair.

Took a long time for me to see my first eagle in the wild. Now it seems I am seeing them more and more. I've no idea how many know about this nest but I don't plan to share with many although the area is a popular one.

A non-writer's attempt at poetry.

Windy Lullabies

The wind came rushing into the night.

It catapulted across the chimney tops, sucking away their smoky breath with a gasp.

It swept across the porches, setting rockers in motion and snapping flags to attention.

It bent the leafless trees into submission as their gnarly fingers clawed for a hold in a blackboard sky.

It robbed me of sleep as I listened to the bumps and whistles and creaks and groans.

It disturbed you and turned you in your sleep to face me.

The gentle wind of your breath blew across my face.

It overpowered the boisterous wind outside.

It brought me back to the peace of us.

It wrapped me in gentleness.

The wind went gently into my dreams.

As a planner of work, I see lots of requests for lots of things but today there was one that I am not sure how to handle-replace hole in ceiling tile. Without any further details, I am left to wonder if they want a larger hole, smaller, blacker, squarer, rounder, but my biggest dilema is where to find the parts. The yellow pages did not list "hole vendors" and Google was no help. Even ebay let me down.

The Larder

Today I started looking through all the cupboards taking stock and making a list of things we need from the grocery store. I found a little bit of this and some of that and a smidgeon here and a tad there but what to do with it all?

Kati kept us stocked while she was here and I miss her way of making a delicious meal with whatever was on hand. I tried one of her tricks and put two of the things I needed to use up quickly into a recipe search. What do you get when you search with buttermilk and oranges? Two naked oranges!

Seriously, I found a couple of great recipes and decided to make Donna's Heavenly Orange Chip Scones. It was fairly simple and I was quite pleased with the results. It was the first time I have ever made or eaten scones--a great way to use up that bit of buttermilk and at least one of the oranges and several other items. Looking forward to having another one with a cup of coffee and the juice from those naked oranges for breakfast. The rest will probably go with us to Columbia and be shared with the crew helping my daughter and son-in-law move tomorrow.

Now what can I do with onion soup mix and cocoa.......and more oranges?

Blogging Again

A good friend recently reminded me of this almost forgotten blog and I thought that right here at the beginning of a new year would be a good time to get back to it. So far the new year has been spent lazily and quietly. We talked ourselves into staying at home on the first. We read, watched TV, did some internet research on motor homes and fifth wheels--nothing exciting, just a contentful beginning of the year.
Today is my birthday and I've always joked that I was born a day late and I've been running behind ever since. I've decided that is not a good way to think of it and starting today, my birthday will become my New Year's Day. Today marked the end of my 59th year of life and more importantly marks the first day of my 60th year.
This 60th year is a very important year. If all goes according to plan, it will be my last full year of work before beginning retirement and starting a life of full time RVing. I was already planning to blog our RV adventures so why not start with the anticipation and the planning and the research and the emotions as well as life's daily business as usual. Stay tuned.
